Project Description

Principal Investigator: Dr. Marjorie Riofrío-Lazo

Conservation of Galapagos Pinnipeds through environmental education is an outreach initiative with the local community of the Galapagos Islands. The objective is to raise environmental awareness among children and young people in the Galapagos Islands through training workshops and the dissemination of research results related to the monitoring of Galapagos pinnipeds. The project seeks to increase interest in the study and protection of these species by promoting research and critical thinking and encouraging community participation in population monitoring of these species. This initiative focuses on environmental education for the local community, as we believe it is the most important tool for ensuring the conservation of island species and achieving behavioral change among the population. This change can be achieved by providing individuals with reliable and truthful information about the problems in their environment and possible solutions.
