Profile:

I am passionate about research and conservation of the biodiversity of Ecuadorian coastal-marine ecosystems, especially pinnipeds. Currently, I am developing a pilot research project to evaluate the conservation status of Galapagos sea lions against the threat of microplastic pollution in the archipelago. For this, my team and I are implementing different techniques to quantify the polymers present in the diet of this species, and how these may influence the populations. Research like this contributes to the knowledge of the species, as well as to decision making related to the conservation and protection of this emblematic species. In the future, I would be interested in establishing a rigid protocol that would allow me to expand my research on microplastics to other species of the islands, such as the Galapagos fur seal.
